‘Xanax’, Willis’s first full feature length, deals with these topics of depression, sadness, and particularly confusion. Often his titular character says “Uh, idk” an unusually large amount of times. Repetition in the book shows the mental anguish the character goes through on a daily basis. Much of the book deals with inability to cope with reality. Willis presents this book as his contribution to NaNoWriMo. Hence the repetition is more than simply hypnotic; it is a way for him to increase the word count. Every NaNoWriMo book must reach 50,000 words. Quality isn’t an issue for NaNoWriMo, quantity is.
